About:

Shibori is a manual resist dyeing technique from Japan which create patterns on fabric.

The term Shibori comes from « shiboru » in Japanese and means « twist », « compress ». This ancestral dyeing technique comes from Japan and is dated from the VIIth century before our era. At the time, shibori was use to embellish the luxurious Samouraïs costumes or splendid kimonos from the Edo period.

There is a number of different shibori techniques. The cloth can be bound, folded, twisted or compressed and is then soaked in an indigo dye bath. The way the fabric is folded dictate which pattern will appear on the fabric. That said, the result is usually unpredicable what makes each piece unique, with a playfull process and endless results.
